Prof. Fahal

Professor Ahmed H. Fahal MBBS (Khartoum) MS (Khartoum) MD (Khartoum) FRCS (Ireland) FRCS (London) FRCS (Glasgow) FRCP (London) is professor of surgery at the University of Khartoum. He set up and directs the Mycetoma Research at the University of Khartoum. He is currently Chief Librarian at the University and prior to that he was the Director of the Educational Developmental Centre at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum before taking up the position of the Director of the Self Evaluation and Quality Enhancement, University of Khartoum and subsequently the Academic Secretary for the University of Khartoum.


The Education Development Centre was established at the Faculty of Medicine,University of Khartoum in 1980 in response to the growing demand in the Sudanand the region for qualified teachers.  The EDC set out to offer effective teacher training programmes, consultation on curricular development and reform, and innovative teaching and evaluation methods for the health professions.


Psychiatry is an essential clinical branch of medicine. The department is located in the western part of the faculty neighbouring the department of paediatrics it will be moved to its new location near prof Daoud lecture theatre soon .the department was established as a separate dept. in 1970.


The department of paediatrics was first established as part of Medicine department in 1966, then a separate department was established aided by WHO in 1968. The department established its own staff in 1972 and held its own exam in paediatrics for under graduates students.

Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Obstetrics and Gynaecology department is one of the clinical departments situated in the center of the faculty facility between the basic medical sciences building and the Dean’s office. It occupies the fist floor of the building shared by the department of medicine. The first head of the department was Professor Lumsden.
